It is said that a playpen can restrict children if used excessively and for long periods of time. However, there is no harm in using them for shorter periods of time and they do come invaluable to many parents. You should really think about the size of the playpen and where you want it to be used. They come in all different sizes so be sure to measure the area properly and take the measurements with you when purchasing one.

The playpen needs to have a strong frame to stop it from tipping over and possibly harming the baby. Also, the bars or slats of the playpen should be vertical, as this will stop a toddler from climbing out. The floor of the playpen should cover the whole base area because this could stop a baby from trapping their arms or legs.

There are some playpens which have wheels on the bottom and generally these can be useful to help transport the playpen from one room to another quite easily. However, you have to be careful that your child cannot move the playpen around, otherwise they could injure themselves.

It should be well known fact that a parent shouldn’t leave a baby unattended in a playpen for very long. If you have to leave the baby for a short period of time, there are a few precautions that can be taken in order to make sure that the baby is safe from harm. You should make sure that there are no rough or sharp edges on the playpen and it is also a good idea to make sure that there are no stackable toys lying around the playpen. If there are, a toddler may try to use them in order to try and climb out.

So, when you purchase the playpen, make sure that you cover every angle and think things through properly.
