Baby Cribs

Let You're Baby Sleep Soundly in a Cosy Baby Crib

When it comes to your baby’s sleeping solution, a crib could be the answer. Generally the crib is the most expensive piece of baby furniture you will be buying for your baby but they do come in a range of prices to suit almost all budgets. There are a variety of different cribs to choose from so just how do you decide which one to go for?

The Different Cribs Available

The main difference between a crib and a cot is that cribs are generally smaller. They are only usually suitable for babies up until the age of six months, whereas some cots can be used into the toddler stages.

When you go into a baby shop you often see cribs kitted out all nice and cosy but beware as most cribs do not come with the bedding. They usually come flat packed and you have to pay for the bedding separately.

As for the different varieties available, there are hundreds of different styles to choose from and as well as traditional cribs, you can also purchase convertible ones. A convertible crib is basically the equivalent of a cot bed and it converts into a bed fit for a toddler.

You can choose whether you want a drawer in your crib and that is generally good for storing bedding in but it is not always essential if you have other furniture such as a wardrobe and a chest of drawers in the nursery. Another feature some cribs come with includes castors. Castors generally make the crib easier to move from room to room, but they can be potentially dangerous if they do not have locks on them.

Another thing to consider when buying a crib is its size. Not all cribs are the same size so you should always measure the space you will be placing the crib, as well as the crib you want to purchase. Something which also may sound a bit obvious is that you should always check the safety regulations of the crib you are purchasing. Ensure that there are no splinters and that the crib is sturdy enough to safely hold the weight of your baby.

Most cribs are wooden and they come in a variety of different colours so you should be able to find something to suit the colour of your nursery. Some people opt for either pink or blue cribs to suit the sex of their baby but the most common tends to be the plain wooden colour.

Overall you should be able to find a crib to suit your baby’s needs but you have to ensure that you take the correct measurements and that you are sure of the quality of the crib itself.
