Find the Perfect Cot Bed for You
Many people do not know the difference between a cot and a cot bed, but a cot bed is generally bigger than a standard cot. This means that whilst a standard cot may be great for your new baby, when the baby grows up you will have to buy a new bed. However, with the cot bed it is designed to be able to fit a child in right up until they are in their toddler stages, making them excellent value!
There is more than one different type of cot bed however, so before you rush out and buy just anything; it is a good idea to research more about the various different types available.
Things to Look Out For When Purchasing a Cot Bed
All cot beds are different so it is important to ensure that you know exactly what it is that you are looking for before setting out to purchase one. Some are more secure than others and features will differ from bed to bed. Some of the most common features to look out for include:
• Adjustable Mattresses
Some cot beds come with adjustable mattresses and generally they allow you to move the mattress both higher and lower if needed. You may not think this is particularly helpful at first, but it does make lifting the baby out of the cot bed a lot easier!
• Dropside Mechanism
Dropside mechanism refers to a side of the cot bed which basically drops down under the cot, which makes it easier to place the cot against the wall. It also allows you to easily move the cot on your own.
• Teething Rails
Some cot beds come with teething rails just like some standard cots do. This is a particularly good feature and it doesn’t damage the bed in any way.
• Lockable Swivel Castors
Swivel castors really do make it so much easier to move the cot bed around. You really do need ones that are lockable however as when the baby is in the cot bed there is a chance that it will roll away from the wall or wherever it is placed!
Overall there are quite a few features to consider when choosing a cot bed for your nursery. Safety is the number one importance and you have to be sure that you will be able to put it together when you get it home. So, do your research and choose a cot bed which is right for you and your nursery.
